Surface currents in operational oceanography: Key applications, mechanisms, and methods

چکیده

This paper reviews physical mechanisms, observation techniques and modelling approaches dealing with surface currents on short time scales (hours to days) relevant for operational oceanography. Key motivations this article include fundamental difficulties in reliable measurements the persistent lack of a widely held consensus definition currents. These problems are augmented by fact that various methods observe model ocean yield very different representations current. We distinguish between four applicable definitions currents; (i) interfacial current, (ii) direct wind-driven (iii) boundary layer (iv) an effective drift Finally, we discuss challenges synthesising data sources - i.e. observational – take view predictability concluding arguments parts circulation exhibit useful context.

BLUElink> Development of Operational Oceanography and Servicing in Australia

The Bureau of Meteorology is scheduled in 2007 to expand its oceanographic services for the Australian community to include operational mesoscale ocean forecasts. The past decade has seen the rapid development of a near real-time global ocean observing system which includes both insitu and satellite instrumentation. The spatial coverage and frequency of observations has provided the capacity fo...

Real-time sea-level gauge observations and operational oceanography.

The contribution of tide-gauge data, which provide a unique monitoring of sea-level variability along the coasts of the world ocean, to operational oceanography is discussed in this paper. Two distinct applications that both demonstrate tide-gauge data utility when delivered in real-time are illustrated. The first case details basin-scale operational model validation of the French Mercator oper...

Applications of Optimization Particle Swarm in Oceanography

Oceanography is a field of study that seeks to analyze and understand the oceans’ behavior, the planet they are part of and the living organism that depending on them, using, for this, scientific methods. As the oceans cover 71% of globe surface, they are a key element for the maintenance, existence and certainly the origin of life on Earth. The particle swarm optimization (PSO), a relatively n...
